WWE Bragging rights (2010) Reading an image

Colour- The main colours use are red and blue to represent the competition between the two brands Raw and Smackdown. The colour red connotes danger and blue as a safe and peaceful colour, this makes the the audience that prefers good guys to chose the blue (Smackdown) team but if they prefer evil colours then chose red (Raw) team.

Framing-  the wrestlers in the top left are surrounded by blue, where as the wrestlers in the bottom right are surrounded by red. And in the center there is a fusion of red and blue.

Composition- the advert is put together like the yin and yang symbol, where they have replaced the black and white and blue and added in images.

Size- the size of the wrestlers are made to look like larger than life and like heroes to the masses. the typography of the pay-per-view name is like a block and uses two different types of font based on their respective brands.

Type of shot- they have used a medium shot in the frame.

Subject matter- the subject matter is to promote the pay-per-view, where these 10 wrestler have waged war to see which brand is better.

Setting- the setting is not established.

Lighting- the stars are lit up to emphasis there larger than life status and build.

Pose- the poses vary, some of the superstars have their arms folded, connoting a sense of overconfidence, and the others show a battle ready pose, i can connote that they are on their toes, ready to pounce on their opponents.

The Dominant reading is that the people should order and buy their pay-per view to see the stars on the advert fight it out.

The Negotiated reading is give money to us and they let you see these guys wrestle

The Oppositional reading is give us your money.

Image analysis- 50 Cent Reebok advert

Reebok advert
Colour- From the black and white colour I can connote that 50 cent has had a troubled past. The mood created is dark and serious, but at the same time appealing and looks cool to teenagers. Also the black and white could represent the fact the his past was dark and strenuous, but the white represents his present and future being bright.

Framing- The colours frame the picture in a way that it makes us as a viewer feel we can overcome anything just as 50 cent did.

Composition- The picture of 50 cent is side by side with his finger prints from this I can connote that his past is behind him and that he has over come his hurdles and obstacles, as well as him having a criminal record.

Size- The Quote from 50 cent is in a small font but stands out due to the white and the quote ' I am what i am' adds a medieval touch due to the font it makes us feel in touch with the past.

Type of shot- the sot type is a close up on 50 cents face and to present his mood and expressions, to have a deeper impact on the audience.

Subject matter- no product is actually being advertised but the Reebok brand itself is being advertised, and since 50 cent is a iconic and stand out celebrity, he is most likely going to be imitated.

Setting- 50 cent looks like he is in a darkened room.

Lighting- The advert uses Low key lighting this gives a dark gloomy atmosphere it suggests that although the path is hard to success its worth it.

Pose- 50 cent is looking directly at us giving us direct eye contact, as if they are targeting individuals.

The dominant reading is for people to buy Reebok products based on 50 cents face value and since he is very influential teenagers are more likely to buy products.

The negotiated reading could be that people buy Reebok based on 50 cents criminal record.

The Oppositional reading could be that Reebok is a criminals choice of clothing.

Mise en scene- extension pack work

Mise en scene
Costume: the antagonists is wearing a distinctive jacket and heavy armour and boots, as well as dark clothing creates intimidating and dangerous feeling. This adds a a lot of power to the character itself.
Lighting: There is bright light on the antagonist which presents that the antagonist is come into the open and revealed his plot. The spotlight is on him as a villain he reveals master plan to the city.
Actors Position/expressions: The antagonist is in the centre which presents he has the main role. We are looking up at him so it adds the feature that he is of higher status to us and more power.
Make up: the antagonist has a machine on his face which, implies that he has a back story, that is most likely the root of his evil nature.
Props: The goons have several guns, which presents semi or total control of the city. Also we can connote that they are no none sense people, as well going to shoot on sight.
Setting: the building looks like a town hall, so we can infer from this that he is trying to revolt against the system, and try to take over, and convince the city dwellers to join him in his revolution.

4:30- 6:30
Movie: Jeepers Creepers 2
Genre: Horror
Costume: the group of teenagers are wearing a high school/college jackets. This shows they could be headed to a football (rugby) game. The antagonists' costume is green and slimy, so I can connote that he is farthest thing from human.  The wrinkle texture from his face could show he is really old along with his tattered and ancient clothing.
Lighting: The group is in the dark there is little light, and some light from the torch, suggesting they are out at the dead of night, the lack of light creates a dark and gloomy atmosphere, and helps us as viewers to feel like we are actually in the bus with them.
Actors Position/expressions: The actors all have shocked and fearful expressions and are all crowded together to amplify the fear. There expressions show that their predicament is no joke its serious.
Make up: The main use of make up is on the the creature as he has a green slimy face, this adds a stereotypical view of monsters being green and slimy.
Props: They have used a torch to clearly see the creatures face which presents how grotesque he really is, as it is less visible at the start. The torch presents the true horror of the creatures face and his bright white eyes.
Setting: They are located in a Yellow school bus, which gives additional evidence for them being in education. they are in the middle of the road unable to move the bus due to the creature.

40- 2:15
Movie: The Avengers
Genre: Action/ Science-fiction
Costume: The costumes vary, so Robert Downey Jr wears the hi-tech iron man suit and Chris hemsworth is in Chain mail armour, which all presents a war like atmosphere. The costume contrast of a futuristic suit and an Asguardian armour both being the heroes.
Lighting: The light is bright throughout the extract which shows that the battle is in day time. This also shows the invading aliens in full detail and the heroes in action.
Actors Position/expressions: The expressions are all serious and have urgency, which links to the fact its to do with earth's safety. At points the facial expressions present tiredness due to the fighting.
Props: The use of destroyed buildings and rubble, as well as abandoned cars enhances the war like mood.
Setting: They are in a city which, consists of a lot of civilians.

Movie: Harold and Kumar : Escape from Guantanamo Bay
Genre: Comedy
Costume: The characters are all in formal clothing, showing that its a serious scene. The clothing is all serious which builds up a serious mood at the start but is broken down instantaneously by the dialogues of the interrogators.
Lighting: The room has interrogation room style lighting which mean the parents are being questioned.
Actors Position/expressions: The Parents are worried so their expressions are stressed and shocked whereas, the interrogators expressions are more serious and concerned about the 'threat' of the to escapees.
Props: The use of the the general at the start brings a high level of seriousness which is eventually broken down.
Setting: They are in a small room around a table, which presents a secretive and higher level image.

Comparison
The Horror movie has a slow pace compared to the comedy and action movie. The all 3 have polarized costume, horror movies have detailed costumes, and they are precise to every little detail, comedy movies have various costume which have different meanings, as well as breaking down the ideology by poking fun at it. Action movies have costumes based on heroes, so in this case the costumes are based on the marvel heroes, so Captain America, iron man, Thor.

Wolverine poster analysis

I think this movie is about one man's fight for his life as displayed by the mise en scene, as the actors expression presents a deep seriousness, with a deep stare right at you. The protagonists body language shows us that he is battle ready evident from the clenched fists and veins popping out also presenting strength and power. Also, there is darkness all around the protagonist , and  that he is in the middle shows us that he is the hero, with assistance of a glow around him. The props used in the poster are samurai swords which gives the setting away of Tokyo, Japan along with the backdrop of bright buildings consisting of Japanese text. There is also a femme fatale which shows there is betrayal, seduction and deception she is in the left of the poster facing away from the hero, whereas the binary opposite is on the right who we can perceive as accomplice to the hero as she is also in a battle stance. The typography of the poster is silver and looks like metal which brings out the enigma code we can question what the connection is ? etc .  The genre of the movie is action adventure as wolverines claws are out which represents the fighting and action and adventure as it is in another country. I think the target audience is teenagers above 15 because there may be a lot of gruesome violence and explicit scenes with the femme fatale.

Man of steel trailer analysis

Cinematography
The trailer uses a variety of shots and angles.

At the start of the the trailer there is a wide angle shot of a dark room with several screens playing a cryptic message this present a dark and mysterious atmosphere this makes the audience curious, it begins to intrigue them and wonder what is going on. The use of the wide angle shot is repeated several times in the trailer. This is evident as it portrays several different countries this shows that it concerns the worlds population giving an essence of seriousness.

As we watch further we begin to see several close up shots of the main characters, this enables us as viewers to clearly see facial expressions and this also gives us the emotions that are being given out. for example when Henry cavill (superman) is holding up the collapsing building his face can be clearly shown and shows that he is putting a lot of effort in to look like it is actually falling. This makes us as a viewer react to it in away that makes us question what will happen and begin to entice our curiosity.

Further on in the trailer, the  movement of the camera effects our perception of the main protagonist. This evident when Cavill is walking in an isolated area it shows he has a significant role and this presents a stereotypical image of heroes as good, which adds a image of familiarity and also depth.

Editing
The first 25 seconds of the trailer present is the shot of a cryptic message, this has a dark and gloomy effect in the atmosphere, this gives the audience a hint that there maybe aliens.  The pace during the trailer changes, at the start there is a moderate pace which starts to increase gradually this is a build up to the entrance of the main protagonist this is effective as they build up to the change and twist of the the movie. the video is left at a cliffhanger as a Montague of several action scenes, which is appealing to the male viewers and a minority of female viewers.

Sound
The trailer starts of with Micheal Shannon(general zod), his voice is deep and intimidating, which can have a engrossing factor that helps people want to watch the rest of the trailer. The sound effects of the trailer are loud and violent, which also appeals to the male, this is evident from the explosions and action/combat scenes.

Mise en scene
The lighting at the start is dark consistently when the main focus is to do with the antagonist however changes when the protagonist has appeared it gets brighter, this influences the audiences state of mind, as well as giving the hero a push. Also the costume worn by Henry Cavill is the the evolution of the the superman suit which is known by several generations of people and would appeal to them due to the original colors red and blue. There are various settings add a wide variety, for example the isolated setting just prior to the climax of the trailer.

The genre of Man of steel is a action, this is evident from the special effects, of explosions and intense fight scenes we get a few glimpses of during the end of the trailer, also they are fast paced which keeps the viewer engaged with the speed.

Ragz media blog

Why I chose media? Good question… I chose media for several reasons one off which includes helping me gain a wider perception of what media actually is and where it can take me and I wanted to try something new and unknown to me so I am taking a huge risk with this but hope it will be an amazing experience. Furthermore, my older sister had done media for her gcses and told me it was a good topic it’s hard if you don’t put the effort in. Although I don’t really want a career in media as I want to be a psychologist when I am older, however I will change my career as I want to become a wrestler and start training in Ohio valley wrestling where I will train for several years and see where I go.
