E4

E4 is a British digital channel that was launched on the 18th January 2001. E4 is an extension of Channel 4, and is owned by Channel Four Television Corporation. The "E" stands for entertainment and is aimed at the lucrative 15-35 age group. E4 presents a mixture of US imported shows, like The Big Bang Theory, 2 Broke Girls, and 90210, and British shows like Misfits, The in-betweeners and more. E4 became available on free view after May 2005. E4 was also available as part of the basic Sky satellite subscription channel package, due to a long term contract with BSkyB it only became free-to-air in 2008. This change happened on 6 May 2008 and the channel joined Freesat along with More4.

E4 introduced ‘first look’, which showed episodes of popular programmes such as Come Dine with Me, Hollyoaks, and Lost.  Since 2006 E4 has been sponsoring the E4 UdderBELLY venue at the Edinburgh Fringe, and Brighton festival. In July 2007, channel 4 announced the launch of E4 Radio; however in October 2008 channel 4 announced the idea for E4 Radio being scrapped. December 2009, E4 launched a HD Simulcast on Sky+ HD on channel 215, and it was added to Virgin Media on 1st April 2010. E4 HD is only available on Sky HD packs and/or Virgin Media’s TV XL pack. By the end of 2012, E4 acquired the rights to new US comedies. They are New Girl, Suburgatory, 2 Broke Girls, The New Normal and The Mindy Project. On 31st October 2013 E4 premiered a refreshed look and the 7th season of The Big Bang Theory [1].
